on Staff Pick: Writing Love Songs
There was a song this year that really hit my heart with my love, Christina. It was Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - HOME. I wasn't particularly in to the song at first, but when I took a few minutes to listen to the lyrics, I realized what a beautiful love song it was. I've been long away from my family and being with the love of my life is home for me now, nothing like any other home before. I could probably try and fumble with a pen to capture how I feel, but these guys have already put it better than I ever could.
p.s. we both love OPB.

on Suggest a Show
I would love to hear a program on Christmas Trees in the NW. We grow most of them here, and we also have (arguably) the largest population of forest activism and anti-Christmas tree sentiments - all with reasonable points.
A place to discuss "Are Xmas trees sustainable? Is there farming 'bad' or 'harmful'? Are Xmas trees just for ceremonial reasons or do they represent other things nowadays (i.e. seasonal economy)?"
I actually run a (very) small business that delivers Christmas Trees by bike in Portland and am confronted with questions, criticism, and support all the time. I know the answer to some of the questions above, but not all by any means. I would love to hear or even participate in a conversation like this.

on Northwest Passages: Fisher Poets
The words shared this morning so far have been really inspiring. I was actually quite rivetted by the imagery in these poems. I was a little taken aback though when I heard Moe equate office work with "keeping your shirt clean". I work in an office, work hard in an office, to feed people too. While I realize being a deck hand on a boat may be difficult, can you really even weigh it out against other jobs? I can understand the romance of fishing, being a deckhand in Alaska for a season myself, but it's really pretty ignorant to reduce all other occupations to a life of ease. Moe may take her poetic license on this, to prove some sort of point about the passionate soul of a fisherman, but it's really off-putting for those of us who find freedom in other places.
