on Bike Plan 2030

I fall into the camp that suggests the plan does not do enough. A bicycle boulevard, which is heavily emphasized in this plan, is simply not safe enough for children, or even casual riders. Bicycle boulevards are sufficient for the “enthused and confident” type of cyclist. If we really want to achieve a 25-30% cycling mode share then we need to develop infrastructure that makes cyclists feel safe.

on A Sustainable Auto Industry

I am a bike commuter so I like this idea, however as Emily noted, not everybody lives in an urban area where cycling is a reality. If we assume that not everybody is going to cycle or take public transportation, then we need alternative methods to power vehicles.

on Washington Initiative #1000: Assisted Suicide

It seems that practitioners of western medicine find that it is perfectly acceptable to interfere with natural processes to halt, or prolong death, yet they find it difficult to support or assist a patient die in a manner they choose. I have trouble with this hands-on approach in controlling life, but a hands-off approach when it dealing with death.
