GreenInEugene,
Exactly. Doesn't everyone see the disconnect between the Oregon Business Alliance wanting higher wages? Heck, if that's their main concern, how about the members of the OBA just give their employees raises?
There is a snake in the grass here and it's clearly an opening salvo for advocating a more "business friendly environment" (read: lower business taxes, more concessions to business interests, etc.)

Do your guests have any specific policy recommendations? All I'm hearing so far is obvious, vague "we need..." statements. Specifically, what policies are they advocating for?

The caller Lisa nailed it. So many chumps focusing on those below them while the banksters steal billions.
Of course if there really was a desire to solve the flow of undocumented workers, the solution is to enforce the laws that already exist for employers. Hmm, I wonder why that never happens.

Ooh, I actually like that idea if you're willing to take it further. How about next time I buy a pair of Nikes I get an itemized bill that breaks the prices down for Phil's salary (including stock!) the athlete's endorsement fees and the sweat shop worker who actually made the shoes? Next time I pay my insurance, I get to see the bill in terms of the CEO's salary and the lobbiest's fees?

While you're calculating how much each customer will pay, I'll just write a check and get on with making my business more efficient and more satisfying for my customers. But have fun with that smallbizguru!

According to COST (as cited by the Williamette Week) both Utah and Texas have higher corporate tax burdens than Oregon - even after the 67 changes.

If you and your wife "make" $300K a year (I'm assuming you mean gross, not _taxable income_) I doubt you will be affected at all. If you really do have a taxable income of $300K/year, then your extra burden will be about $5K - but have fun with those craigslist sales!

It's astonishing to me that these trickle-down charlatans have any credibility at all. Since Reagan we've watched public institutions and infrastructure decay while wealth concentrates more and more at the top.

Amazing that you can know with such certainty what the experience of others will be.

Portland Mountain Rescue disagrees with you:
"Contrary to what might seem common sense, we believe that mandating beacons actually increases risks for both climbers and the rescuers."

No disrespect, but their opinion carries more weight for me than yours.

No, experienced means experienced. By reports of other climbers who were on Hood that day, snow conditions were near perfect. These climbers appear to have done nothing wrong and probably just got unlucky.
My condolences to Luke's friends and family. To the friends and family of Anthony & Katie, my thoughts are with you and still hoping for the best.

Yeah, great idea. Let's require the same (and the carrying of beacons) for Hikers, Hunters, Swimmers, Fishermen, Mushroom Pickers, etc. Oh, and how about you get the Mushroom Pickers to staff the volunteer SAR positions from now on. We climbers are tired of helping rescue those risk-takers who have no regard for friends, family and the rest of society.

One of the worst policies ever. Even using the NAR numbers, it's gonna cost $43K for each additional home sold:

I think there are a number of people who think that the real estate market will just "bounce back" to gaining 15%/per year any time now. As if the boom years were not an aberration, but were normal. I suspect that some of those folks will end up being in over their heads - at least as much as the banks will let them.
