I think one of the biggest problems in our State with Alcohol is the hypocritical policies of the OLCC. They'll provide ample 1/2 pints of cheap liquor to low income people but won't allow high end obscure liquors for connoisseurs. The OLCC claims there is a process where we, as restaurant and Bar owners, can bring in specialty liquors but the process is so arduous and expensive that it doesn't work. I've petitioned the OLCC to bring in several different rare Bourbons, Armagnac and Absinthe and none of them were added to the purchase list. We need to open access to allow us to buy unique liquuors. Also the OLCC needs to give a bigger discount to the hospitality industry other states get up to 50% off retail for purchases where we get 5%. We need to change the OLCC!
Thanks

I moved here from Boston and voted for the ballot measure but I'm not happy with the speed and efficiency of the system. The streetcars are slow and the wait is too long between cars. In addition I don't think it's fair to cut service to save money when the health care plans offered the employees are the "cadillac" plans. I can't afford those plans for myself or my employees ( I own a small business) but our tax money is going to fund high end plans for public employees where the services we're paying for are getting cut. Also I think it's unproductive to cut services when you're trying to build ridership, we should be adding services and and cutting in other areas to make the service more efficient. I would ride it more if I could get around easier and quicker.

on Dudley for Obama 08
Taxes are necessary to operate a society and everyone should pay in to support our society. The problem is where the taxes collected. Corporations are not paying their fair share and receive huge credits. Another problem in OR is that every time there's an initiative, property taxes are tapped to fund the initiatives. This year alone there are two iniitiatives on the ballot that require funding from increased Property taxes and it's just not fair. We need to re-allocate the contributions, stop Corporate wellfare.
People also don't think about all of the benefits they receive from their taxes because the're not seeing a direct benefit, these people generally think they're paying too much and have a short sited vision about what's good for our society as a whole. We have to look to the future in areas like education.

Right, small business gets a raw deal in Oregon while the big corporations and developers get all the breaks.

I think a major problem with Health Inspectors is that they all apply the rules differently. One inspector will come in and take points away for something another inspector doesn't care about. I think they play a very important roll, but as a restaurant worker I need to know what i'm supposed to do to meet the health department requirements, the problem is the requirements change every time a different inspector steps into your place. I've see this first hand many times.
