In the latino community, the need for culturally appropriate mental health services is key to ending the cycle of violence that is endemic in parts of the community.  The disproportionate number latinos incarcerated in parts of the state should be a wake up call that we need some different thinking on how to address the problem.  How do we get kids off the street?  How do we get parents more involved in their kid's lives?  Domestic violence, lack of after school activities and the poverty in these communities leads these kids to join gangs.  We need to remove the anger in these families and get them some help on how they can get beyond it.  We need to empower the moms and the women in the family to help end the traditional cultural of male domination and machismo.
