I have yet to read one of Alcalá's books, but I truly look forward to doing so. As the only child by my Jewish-American mother and a Mexican-American father (born Catholic and now Christian), I understand the various complexities of culture and religion within your own family and trying to have them happily coexist. While it was difficult as an adolescent to find my "place," I am truly thankful for my background and my families.
