I think if kids are taken an interest in and shown a different way there is hope to keep them out of gangs.  Ive known a few people who were members of gangs out of Southern California that said they were from big families and felt obscure or parents were into drugs more than their kids.  They all told me if someone had shown an interest in them things might have been different...the gang was the family they didnt have at home.

Parking them in prison isnt the solution because prison has the gang members that keep the "family" tight.
