Thank you to all of you who have added your thoughtful comments here!  I agree with those who have commented that the emphasis on personal stories sometimes can distract us from thoughtful discussion of the larger policy issues.  And that while this issue is technically about money, it's REALLY about being a more caring society. Paid family leave would be a step in the right direction.

I fully support paid family leave in Oregon.  I attended the hearing in Salem last week and heard testimony in support of SB 966 from a wide array of Oregonians including seniors, parents, business owners, doctors and nurses, economists, policy researchers, and more.  Put together, their testimony showed that paid family leave insurance is a necessary, business-friendly, financially viable way that our state can support working people.  I would be proud to see Oregon become one of the first states in the nation to offer paid family leave.
