on Measure 75: Wood Village Casino
In these difficult economic times when fire and police protection are trying to provide adequate management of risk with about half the funding; and at a time when the Governor and Agency Heads are looking behind every rock to find funding outside the general fund: Aren't we at a place that we need every new business possible? This casino would add jobs and revenue to our state. Isn't that what we're working towards?
Yes, the investors are looking at making money from this - but they're offering revenue to US when revenue is very hard to find these days. I will vote for Measure 75.

on Fighting Fire
After the Tillamook Forest burned three times, all of which were human-caused, there was a huge outcry from the public to protect Oregon's resources from these types of unwanted wildfires. As a result, the Keep Oregon Green Association was formed and, is today, 70 years later, continue to raise the awareness of wildfire causes and to educate Oregonians about behaviors that prevent human-caused wildfires in Oregon.
Careless humans cause over 70 percent of the wildfires that occur on Oregon Department of Forestry-protected lands in Oregon. It's an even higher percentage on some federal lands. Backyard burning, equipment use , camp and warming fires, and smoking lead the causes.
There is a much greater demand for recreation in the forests, and more and more people are moving into the wildland/urban interface (WUI) where the trees have been encroaced upon by houses. People love to live in the forests. But they MUST take responsibility to protect their properties by using good behaviors that prevent fires. Otherwise, not only homes, but LIVES, will be lost.

on As We Are: Teen Parents
Too often, we take the responsibility away from others' behaviors and call them "accidents." But as someone who has worked in prevention for almost 30 years, I want to tell you there are NO accidents.
What really happens is that people are careless. She and her boyfriend were careless 1) by not practicing abstinence; and 2) by not using birth control. It's certainly available theses days. There is no excuse for unwanted pregnancies.
Take responsiblity for your planned actions to avoid the consequences. Thanks -
